Step 1

Individual Counselling

A woman may self-refer to our counselling program.  An initial intake appointment will be scheduled with the Program Director who will then assign the woman to a Clinical Counsellor.

“I CAN” Abuse Awareness Group

This is an introductory Step 1 educational group for women who are beginning to access services at Cythera Transition House Society. Examples of topics include: What is Abuse; Understanding the Cycle of Abuse; Safety Planning; Boundaries; and Coping. The group is facilitated by two Clinical Counsellors. This is a drop-in group however contact with the Program Director at 604-467-9939 (extension 230) prior to attending is encouraged. Please call for more information.

Step 2

Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse Group

This 12-week group provides education and support to women who have past experiences of childhood sexual abuse. The group focuses on understanding the impact of abuse and on developing healthy ways to cope for today. Women can self-refer and pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Offered once per year.

Pattern Changing Group

This 15-week second stage group is available to women who have a good understanding of the dynamics and cycle of abuse, and who are ready to explore their own patterns and look at possible ways to change. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Offered twice per year.

Multicultural Outreach

Our Multicultural Outreach Support Staff can provide culturally appropriate support, education, accompaniment, advocacy, referrals, and individual counselling to women requiring the service. This service is ongoing throughout the year. Women can self-refer to this program.

Healthy Lifestyles Parenting Programs (HeLPP)

Parenting Dinner Program

This is a dinner program for women already accessing Cythera’s Services. This program is open to women and their children (ages 0-6 years). It offers the opportunity to make and enjoy a healthy dinner, participate in the Parent/Child Mother Goose Program, and have some time for parenting support (while child-minders watch the children). If transportation is a barrier, some resources are available to assist. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.

Nobody’s Perfect Parenting

This is an 8-week parenting education and support program for parents of children from birth to age 5.  Some goals of the program are to promote positive parenting, increase parental understanding of their child’s development, and help parents build on their current skills as well as learn new ones.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.  **Childminding is provided but children must be pre-registered.

Parent-Child Mother Goose

A group experience for parents/caregivers and their babies and young children (birth to 5 years) for those who are accessing services at Cythera.  Connect with your child through the pleasure of rhymes, songs and stories.  This program is offered two times per year.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
